Back        WHAT Happens IN A Support Group         Next

A support group is a place ...

  • Where individuals can be honest about their strengths and struggles

  • Where individuals can share about growth (which is our common goal)

  • Where individuals can gain new perspectives by hearing others' stories

  • Where individuals will grow at different rates

  • Where no individual is more or less important than another

  • Where individuals can begin to learn how to relate in healthy non-erotic ways with both men and women

  • Where new members may choose to wait for a while before they open up to the group

  • Where individuals have something worth sharing with each other as they grow

  • Where individuals can receive special prayer and support

  • Where advice is sometimes less important than honest feedback and listening

  • Where group members are respected and need to respect each other

  • Where even (seemingly) small personal goals are important and affirmed

  • Where hope and encouragement are gifts we give each other

  • Where certain actions will be viewed as "sinful" but the individual is always valuable, loved and important

  • Where each individual makes his or her decisions about how to live within God's standards

  • Where individuals will not be "shamed" by what they choose to disclose in group (we are all growing and we all agree to maintain group confidentiality)

  • Where group leaders are in control and have the authority to interrupt when exercising discernment during any harmful or ungodly discussions/conversations

  • Where honesty and accountability are encouraged

  • Where trust is re-learned and put into practice

  • Where the awesome power of God is witnessed each week!
